In 2023, BioSafe Systems instituted a new aspect of their pledge to sustainability by founding their Sustainability Committee and kicked off the new year with a recycling event and partnership with Green Monster e-Cycling, a local business one town over. Everyone at our East Hartford headquarters cleaned out their homes and offices and brought in TVs, iPads, iPods, keyboards, consoles, speakers, modems, and printers. We even packed up several of our lab’s old hydraulic pumps to recycle.
The Green Monster e-Cycling company took a whole truck full of our electronic waste, wiped the data from our servers using a guaranteed procedure, and weighed the total amount. We saved 1,097 lbs. of electronic waste from piling up in landfills, leaking toxins, and provided the opportunity for electronic materials to be reintroduced for use in newly manufactured products. Green Monster has a zero-landfill policy and abides by the strictest guidelines set forth by the EPA to de-manufacture, sort, and recycle electronics in the safest and most ethical manner. This is the first of many new efforts put forth by BioSafe Systems’ Sustainability Committee in 2024.
