Many are familiar with plant health promoter products that improve plant stress tolerance, stimulate growth, and improve nutrient availability. BioSafe Systems has two formulations that can be applied through the soil or growing medium to bolster plant health; one is a wettable powder material (TerraGrow®), and the other is a liquid. TerraGrow® Liquid is cultured through a single-species fermentation process, blended, and tested under strict quality control conditions. We developed the liquid version to ease applications through irrigation systems and reduce clogging drippers. Our liquid chemistry adds beneficial nutrients to the soil quickly, smoothly, and evenly.
The slight alterations made between the powder and liquid material make it easier for the chemistry to mobilize through your operation effectively with minimal clogging while circulating all the valuable nourishment. We have maintained the five strains of beneficial Bacillus, including three known fungal antagonists, and two nitrate reducers and phosphate fixers. It’s important to control nitrate in a plant’s environment because they cannot absorb it continuously and the excess is toxic; there needs to be a balance. Plants also need phosphate to carry out vital functions like respiration and photosynthesis, but too much can hinder the absorption of other required micronutrients. We’ve also kept the refined kelp component for its high levels of cytokinin, a natural growth hormone that promotes root growth and improves photosynthesis.
The difference is where we use molasses in our wettable powder as a food source for the microbes, the liquid formula uses a fractured yeast extract. This exchange makes TerraGrow® Liquid more friendly to emitters, drain drippers, or micro drip irrigation systems. We’ve also replaced the humic component, which contains some insoluble materials, with refined fulvic acid that ensures nutrients are fully absorbed. “Incidence of [clogging] is much less likely now that we have switched away from the humic component,” said Zac Ricciardi, our National Cannabis Specialist within the Horticulture Division.
The combination of our five strains of Bacillus makes up a full plant health package. When you can distribute these beneficial bacteria and nutrients directly into the growing medium, you’re giving your plants the best shot to be successful from the start. Each strain contains components that reinforce root structures, enhance stress tolerance, and help plants absorb nutrients.
