BioSafe Systems’ Clean Chemistries an Ideal Fit for Cannabis Industry

The cannabis industry continues to thrive, and BioSafe Systems is “ready, willing, and eager” to contribute its years of field experience and knowledge to help growers succeed, says Zac Ricciardi, Cannabis Specialist for the company, which manufactures sustainable crop protection, sanitation, and water treatment products.

BioSafe Systems specializes in biorationals, which are pesticides derived from naturally occurring ingredients that do little to no harm to the environment.
They are powerful enough to control pathogens without corroding equipment, damaging plants, or leaving harmful residues. Biorationals are also compatible with most biological control agents (BCAs).

A Natural Fit
BioSafe Systems offers cannabis growers products that can be incorporated at every stage of the cannabis growing cycle. The products not only eradicate pathogens and pests, but they also help maintain soil health and water quality while meeting strict state regulations for chemical residues required for cannabis production. BioSafe Systems’ products are a natural fit for cannabis growers who are concerned about residual contamination, Ricciardi says.

“We pride ourselves on the highest-quality chemistries,” he adds, pointing to BioSafe Systems’ peroxyacetic acid (PAA) products, which are manufactured at three U.S. locations. Peroxyacetic acid is a combination of hydrogen peroxide and glacial acetic acid. It works on contact and has no known resistance. It also contains no harsh chemicals or residuals. Once it kills on contact, the PAA breaks down to air and water. No rinsing is required.

Ricciardi says products like SaniDate® 5.0, a peroxyacetic acid-based sanitizer and disinfectant that kills plant and human health pathogens and viruses on hard surfaces, can be sprayed by cannabis growers and left alone to do its job.

“Because it breaks down into oxygen and water, you only touched it once,” Ricciardi adds. “Whereas if you put out a chemistry that needs to be rinsed off, you know that’s double the amount of time that somebody must spend attending to it.”

Ricciardi also stresses that re-entry intervals on most BioSafe Systems’ products are much less than some conventional chemistries. “This allows growers to maximize their productivity,” he adds.

Because its manufacturing facilities are in the U.S., BioSafe Systems can serve its customers quickly with less of a carbon footprint compared to transporting such products from overseas. “There’s minimal lag time because of our domestic presence,” Ricciardi says.

Economics is a component of sustainability, Ricciardi adds, noting that time is money.
